Reflection

It’s a strange time that deserves a moments acknowledgment; deserves recognition. It doesn’t come as a moment, but a slow, creeping sensation tingling up your spine, filling your chest and warming your ears.

It’s that realization that while, no, I am obviously not near the top of my field and not even fast approaching that point, I have reached the point (not entirely without merit) where I’m meeting those people and working with those people. I am not yet the best and maybe I won’t be, but if it’s going to happen it will be with the help of the people whom I’m meeting right now. These are the people who will bring me to my personal best and, luck and persistence and chance and madness willing, bring me into those upper echelons of my profession, which not all that long ago seemed like lofty and impossible to reach heights.

I am not the best, but I’m still not even the best that I can be. Just watch me.
